About PaintPricing

Built by a painter and a developer who got tired of bad estimates

PaintPricing exists because guessing on quotes costs real money — either you underbid and lose a weekend, or overbid and lose the job. We built the tool we wished we'd had.

JM

John Miller

Licensed Painter · 15 years

John runs a residential painting crew and has quoted more than 2,000 interior and exterior jobs over 15 years. He's the reason the numbers on this site actually reflect what crews charge — not what SEO content farms think they charge.

Reviews every cost guide on this site. If a number looks off to John, it doesn't get published.

Faz

Developer · Founder

Faz builds software for small operators. After watching painter friends lose good jobs to bad math, he built the PaintPricing calculator and the quoting tool that now lives at app.paintpricing.com.

Built this app for painters like John. Dead-simple pricing so you can focus on painting, not paperwork.

How we build our cost estimates

Every cost number on this site — city guides, blog posts, calculator defaults — is built from three sources:

  • U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics painter wage data (updated annually, broken down by MSA)
  • Manufacturer coverage specs from Sherwin-Williams, Benjamin Moore, and Dunn-Edwards product data sheets
  • Field experience from John Miller's 15 years quoting residential jobs, plus anonymized aggregate data from PaintPricing calculator users

We update regional ranges quarterly. When labor rates shift or paint manufacturers change coverage specs, the numbers on this site change too.

Editorial note: We do not accept paid placements from paint manufacturers, contractors, or supply retailers. Product mentions (e.g., Sherwin-Williams Duration, Benjamin Moore Aura) reflect what John actually uses on job sites.
