About PaintPricing

What is PaintPricing?

PaintPricing is a fast, estimate-first quoting tool for painting contractors. You enter a few project details — rooms, surface types, paint quality, condition — and it produces a realistic price range with a full cost breakdown. Paid plans add branded PDF quotes, saved client history, and the ability to edit estimates after saving.

Who is it built for?

Residential and commercial painters who quote jobs regularly. Solo painters starting out, established crews wanting a faster quoting workflow, and handymen who include painting in their services all use it. Homeowners can use the free calculator for a ballpark number before talking to contractors.

How is this different from a generic estimate template?

Spreadsheets and Word templates force you to remember production rates, coverage math, and markups every time. PaintPricing automates all of that using industry-average rates you can override, so quotes take minutes instead of an evening.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in your browser on any phone, tablet, or laptop. Sign in once and your saved quotes are available everywhere.

Pricing & Billing

How much does PaintPricing cost?

The painting estimate calculator is free forever with no signup. Pro plans start at $29/month and add features like branded PDF quotes, unlimited saved jobs, and editing after save. See the pricing page for the full breakdown.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every paid plan comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee, so you can try it risk-free. The free calculator also lets you use the core estimating engine without any signup.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, cancel from your account settings. You keep access through the end of your billing period.

What payment methods do you accept?

Major credit and debit cards through our PayPal-backed checkout. You do not need a PayPal account to pay — you can use any card at checkout.

Will my price go up later?

Founding subscribers keep their rate for the lifetime of their subscription. If we raise prices, your plan stays where it started for as long as your subscription is active.

Using the Calculator

How accurate are the estimates?

Estimates use real industry production rates and current paint costs, with adjustable multipliers for surface condition, paint quality, and application method (brush/roll vs. spray). A typical quote lands within 10–15% of what an experienced painter would price. You can always override the final hours and costs before sharing.

Does it handle both interior and exterior jobs?

Yes. Toggle between interior and exterior at the top of the calculator. Interior lets you add multiple rooms with pre-filled dimensions. Exterior covers siding, stucco, brick, trim, doors, decks, and fences.

Can I enter custom labor rates?

The free calculator uses a $45/hour default. Pro plans let you set your own labor rate, paint costs, and markup so every quote reflects your actual shop numbers.

Can I save or export my estimates?

Pro plans save every quote to your account and generate a shareable PDF with your logo and contact info. The free calculator is one-shot — great for a quick check, but quotes are not stored.

Can I edit an estimate after I save it?

Yes. Pro plans let you go back into any saved quote, change rooms or rates, and re-export the PDF. No more making a new quote from scratch every time a client tweaks scope.

Painting & Estimating Basics

How much does it cost to paint a room?

A standard bedroom runs $350–$800 including labor and materials. Living rooms and kitchens typically come in at $500–$1,200. Ranges depend on ceiling height, number of coats, paint tier, and prep condition. Use the calculator for a number tailored to your specific room.

How do I estimate a painting job like a pro?

Measure paintable surface area (walls, ceilings, trim linear feet), count doors and windows, then apply production rates (how fast you paint each surface) and add prep, cleanup, and markup on materials. PaintPricing mirrors this exact workflow so you do not have to track the formulas yourself.

How many gallons of paint do I need?

One gallon covers about 350–400 sq ft per coat on walls. Our calculator uses 375 sq ft per gallon for walls and 250 sq ft per gallon for trim. Multiply by the number of coats for your total.

Why does paint quality matter for pricing?

Economy paint runs $25–$35/gallon, standard $35–$50, and premium brands like Benjamin Moore or Sherwin-Williams $50–$75+. Higher-quality paint often covers in fewer coats and lasts longer, but upfront material cost is noticeably higher. The calculator lets you pick a tier per job.

How long does an interior paint job take?

A single average bedroom takes a crew of two about 4–6 hours for two coats. A full interior repaint of a 1,800 sq ft home usually runs 3–5 working days. The calculator outputs total hours so you can staff jobs accurately.

Should I charge by the hour or by the job?

Most residential painting is priced as a flat project total built from labor hours plus materials plus markup. Clients prefer a fixed number. Hourly pricing is usually only used for unknowns like touch-up or repair work. PaintPricing lets you see both so you can quote a flat price with confidence.

Account & Support

Can I use PaintPricing offline?

You need an internet connection to save quotes or generate PDFs because your data lives in your account. The free calculator works as long as the page is loaded, but we recommend staying online so nothing is lost.

Is my client data private?

Yes. Your saved quotes and client information are visible only to your account. We never share, sell, or train on your data.
